Chris McCausland has candidly opened up about his remarkable journey on Strictly Come Dancing, despite initial reservations about participating in the show.

The stand-up comedian, who lost his sight at the age of 22, has made history as the first blind contestant on the hit BBC dance series. Prior to signing up, Chris questioned whether taking part was "worth the risk".

His performances have resonated with audiences, quickly turning him into a crowd-pleaser, yet he's confessed to having doubts about the feasibility of his Strictly stint.

Penning his thoughts for The Telegraph, he expressed: "I'm very proud of what we've achieved and the effect that it seems to have had on people's attitudes towards disability. We've had so many lovely messages.

"And that's the whole point of being on this show for me - to represent in a positive way, not in a sob-story way. If I'm honest, I didn't know whether Strictly was worth the risk, because I didn't know if it was achievable."

Chris also acknowledged the role of his dance partner in his success: "If I'd been terrible, it would have been no good for anybody. But, with my amazing teacher Dianne by my side, we've managed it."

In a triumphant semi-final last week, Chris and his professional partner, Dianne Buswell, danced their way into the final with a Charleston to 'When You're Smiling' by The Blue Vipers Of Brooklyn and a Viennese waltz to Metallica's 'Nothing Else Matters'.

With the competition nearing its climax, Chris is one of the final four celebrities vying for the top spot, alongside Tasha Ghouri, JB Gill, and Sarah Hadland.

Since the start of the contest, he has wowed judges and fans with his dancing. The Liverpool comedian has even had to make changes to his schedule due to his success.

Speaking to the Liverpool ECHO, Chris revealed: "When I came into it, I wanted to surprise people, surprise myself and do more than people would think is possible, but that was a pipedream."

He acknowledged that there was a risk of an early exit, stating: "There was a chance that it could be a disaster. There was a very real possibility that I could have gone out in the first round. But it's worked and that's not just because of me. It's worked because Dianne has been willing to take risks and been willing to put the hours in."
