Morgan Wallen pleads guilty to misdemeanour charges after throwing chair off rooftop bar
Morgan Wallen has pleaded guilty to reduced charges following an incident in Nashville where he threw a chair off of a rooftop bar.
In April, it was reported the singer had been charged with three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct after throwing a chair off a rooftop bar in Tennessee.
The incident occurred just three days after the country singer-songwriter embarked on his âOne Night At A Timeâ North American headline tour in Indianapolis, Indiana. Per an arrest report, some police officers were standing in front of Chiefâs bar on Broadway when a chair fell from above and landed just feet away.
Staff at the venue subsequently told police that Wallen had thrown the chair from the sixth floor. The document also claimed that police had seen footage showing the artist âlunging and throwing an object over the roofâ.
Wallen went on to publicly address the incident, writing on social media that he âdidnât feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folksâ, adding: âIâve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chiefâs. Iâm not proud of my behaviour, and I accept responsibility.
âI have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe,â he continued. âRegarding my tour, there will be no change.â
Yesterday (December 12), the charges against the âWhiskey Glassesâ singer were reduced from low-level felonies to two misdemeanour counts of reckless endangerment without a weapon.
Per Rolling Stone, each count carried a maximum sentence of 11 months and 29 days in prison and a $500 fine. However, the judge accepted a plea agreement and gave Wallen a two-year suspended sentence except for âseven days incarceration in a DUI education center,â followed by âsupervised probationâ for two years.
Wallen is a first-time offender, and if he adheres to his probation, can later âexpungeâ the misdemeanour convictions from his record.
Elsewhere earlier in the year, the musician donated $500,000 to the American Red Cross as a way to support the relief effort in Hurricane Heleneâs wake.
