Mark Heap, best recognised as the kooky Jim from Friday Night Dinner, has transformed in the upcoming Christmas special of Beyond Paradise.

Anticipation is high for the upcoming Yuletide episode, which will feature Mark as the new widower, Bob Holland.

Synonymous with his portrayal in Friday Night Dinner, Mark's makeover for Beyond Paradise sees him shed the iconic glasses and brown moustache, sporting instead a remarkably longer hairdo. Adding to the lineup is Strictly Come Dancing's Seann Walsh.

Barbara Flynn, who portrays Anne Lloyd and shares screen time with Mark in this special, expressed: "I really enjoyed working with Mark," reports Cornwall Live.

"The storyline was so much fun, and it was a great experience to explore Anne's world further alongside him."

She continued: "I hope everyone enjoys watching the episode and that it gets viewers into the festive spirit-maybe even while wrapping presents!"

The episode teases a compelling narrative: "Bob Holland is ordered to leave his home by a vision of his late wife Linda (Rosalind Adler), he is thrown into emotional turmoil, a vivid reminder of his harrowing grief.

"Besieged by this perplexing sequence of events, he seeks solace from his confidant Anne (Barbara Flynn), and together, they bring their extraordinary experiences to the attention of the Shipton Abbott police.

"Unsure whether Bob's ghostly visions are a manifestation of grief or something more sinister, Humphrey and Esther (Zahra Ahmadi) get to work unravelling the mystery."

The plot summary wraps up with: "Bob's daughter Fiona (Tamla Kari) and her husband, a maverick inventor Colin (Seann Walsh), appear stumped and concerned when deliberating who could be behind this ghostly apparition.

"Is Bob simply struggling with the pain of the first Christmas without his wife, or is there a darker force at play?"

Speaking about the eerie plotline and his character Humphrey's perspective, Kris Marshall hinted: "Humphrey doesn't rule anything out, but he's always up for a challenge. He loves unusual cases-anything out of the ordinary, whether it's ghosts, or just something strange.

"He enjoys getting stuck into these mysteries and picking them apart. As a policeman, he's naturally sceptical and doesn't believe in coincidences. But for him, the thrill comes from unravelling the mystery, which is what gets him excited about the job."

Beyond Paradise is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
