Boost exchanges between HK and capital: CE
Chief Executive John Lee has urged Hong Kong business representatives in Beijing to take a leading role in facilitating exchanges between the SAR and the capital city. During a closed-door luncheon in Beijing on Thursday during Lee's duty visit, the CE met members of the Beijing-based Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in China and other business figures. He said the chamber has all along committed to promoting exchanges in areas such as trade, culture and technology, among others. “I’m very pleased that the chamber has played a leading role in facilitating the complementary advantages and the sharing of benefits in resources between Beijing and Hong Kong,” Lee wrote on social media. “I hope that we will continue to strengthen cooperation and facilitate exchanges between the two places.” Chairwoman of the chamber, Judith Yu, said the chief executive called on those attending the luncheon to assist firms in both cities. “[He mentioned] we should act as a platform to help Hong Kong companies based in Beijing to adapt to the environment, and also we should help more [SAR] companies and Beijing companies use the platform of Hong Kong to list in Hong Kong, and through Hong Kong invest overseas.” Those at the meeting told Lee to consider introducing more measures, including tax concessions, to attract high-performing mainland individuals from the technology sector to come to the SAR, Yu added. The CE is currently on a four-day duty visit to the capital. According to sources, Lee is scheduled to meet central government leaders on Friday to brief them on the city’s latest economic, social and political situation. He will return to the SAR on Saturday.
