Ariana Grande's candid admission about Cynthia Erivo friendship amid online backlash
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo set the cinema screens on fire in November when they starred in the movie version of Wicked as characters Elphaba and Galinda. The pair embarked on a busy promotional tour across the world, which saw them become emotional at times due to the project meaning so much to them.
However, the duo received some online backlash with viewers calling out the two for crying in multiple interviews and in turn, putting them off going to see the film.
While in conversation on Variety's Actor on Actor with Paul Mescal, Ariana opened up about her friendship with Cynthia amid the online backlash.
Gladiator star Paul said: "I'm like a target audience for Wicked, I love musicals, and I think it's not just for people who love musicals or love Wicked. I think that's a testament to what you guys created. If it was just an original piece that you guys have made, you have made the perfect version of that.
"It's a really hard thing to step into something that people adore but also to be yourself and Cynthia at the absolute center of it, it's a big responsibility that I think you both shoulder extraordinarily well."

Paul continued to add: "I'm watching you guys in the press tour, you're like in love with each other."
"Insufferable, yes. Horrible, it's bad," Ariana joked, as Paul laughed and said: "You were absolutely insufferable."
The singer continued: "Yeah, the most annoying," before continuing with the enlightening conversation.
Fans weren't too happy about the pair crying in multiple interviews as one person quipped at the time: "It was a good movie but I'm sorry it wasn't emotionally groundbreaking. Like why is everyone getting so emotional."
