LIV Golf duo Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau are gearing up for an epic face-off against PGA Tour stars Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler in 'The Showdown' on December 17.

During a media session ahead of the event, the LIV Golf stars hinted that it could evolve into a significant new tournament by 2025. The quartet will clash in a two-on-two contest at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, adopting a Ryder Cup-esque format.

As anticipation mounts for 'The Showdown 2024', Koepka has teased the possibility of an extensive expansion next year. In a conversation with Sports Illustrated, he alluded to a potential LIV vs. PGA showdown inspired by the Ryder Cup model, promising golf enthusiasts a thrilling spectacle towards the end of 2025.

"I think the showdown is a great, a showcase for bringing the two tours a bit together and I think we're going to do next year," Koepka remarked.

"All of us can align and bring something bigger and better so we can have a couple more times where they can or just at least one more time where we can see most of the best players from both sides competing, more against each other."

The American also added it could be a "LIV vs. PGA Tour Ryder Cup-style thing."

With previous iterations of 'The Showdown' proving popular, Koepka foresees the event growing into a major attraction for fans despite LIV and the PGA Tour still being in talks over a merger. "This is growing into a big thing and I think that's what would draw the fans," he asserted.

While many see the match as a casual off-season event, Koepka has emphasised that victory is always the goal. He suggested that as the event gains traction, the competitive spirit will only intensify.

"I can promise you on the other side, they're not sitting there wanting to lose," Koepka declared. "Rory doesn't, Scottie doesn't want to lose to us and there's no chance (we want to lose), we're too competitive on our side. We don't want to lose.

"This isn't anything other than just us being competitive and wanting to beat those guys, and show them who the best players in golf are.

"I truly think you've got the biggest figure in golf in Bryson and then one of the (golfers with the) most majors. We've got a lot going on our side. We want to beat them, we want to showcase the world we're the top two dogs."
