BBC Strictly star Tasha Ghouri 'inspires' new British Sign Language dating TV show
Following the popularity of reality shows like Love Island and My Mum, Your Dad, a fresh dating series is reportedly in development.
The innovative concept centres around individuals who communicate through sign language, drawing inspiration from deaf celebrities who have leveraged their fame to promote awareness, reports the Mirror.
Rose Ayling-Ellis, former EastEnders star, made history as the first deaf participant on Strictly Come Dancing in 2021, ultimately clinching the title. Concurrently, Love Island's Tasha Ghouri is vying for victory in this year's competition, securing her spot as a finalist in the results show aired on Sunday night (December 8).
TV bosses are scouting for singletons who are deaf, proficient in British Sign Language, or CODAs (children of deaf adults), aged between 25-35, for this groundbreaking programme. An insider revealed to The Sun: "The creators have just put out a casting call for people in their twenties and thirties, who might like to take part."
While the broadcasting channel remains uncertain, ITV and Channel 4 are potential contenders given their penchant for pioneering content. The source added: "As for the dating show genre, producers are always looking for new ways to look at what attracts people to one another."

Production house Gold Wala announced the news with an advertisement stating: "Casting is now live for a super-exciting, brand new British Sign Language dating show for a major new channel."
The call is out for a unique casting opportunity, with the announcement stating: "We are looking for all deaf, BSL users and CODAs who are aged 25 to 35 years old, are single and up for taking part in what will be an incredibly fun, exciting opportunity."
Tasha, who was born deaf, initially used hearing aids but received a cochlear implant just shy of her fifth birthday.
Her journey included speech therapy, and it wasn't until she turned five that she began to speak, having previously relied solely on British Sign Language for communication.

Using her influence, Tasha has become a vocal advocate for the deaf community and champions positive change. This year marked the debut of her romance novel, Hits Different, which features a protagonist embracing her disability as a superpower rather than a limitation.
Rising to fame on Love Island in 2022, Tasha reached the final alongside Andrew Le Page, finishing in fourth place.
The couple remains together, with Andrew showing unwavering support by attending Strictly's live shows and making surprise visits during rehearsals, as seen in the weekly VTs on BBC One.
The final of Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturday at 6pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer
