Nurse Trixie Aylward is back but appears to be withut husband Matthew. And there is tension in Poplar as news of an escaped prisoner reaches the area, with locals fearing the fugitive has taken up residence nearby after a spate of break-ins.
On a lighter note the funfair comes to town, allowing the busy midwives to have some respite from the stress of their jobs. Also the Turner children (who get more adorable each season) are collecting dinky cars and scrap metal for the Blue Peter Christmas appeal.
Of course there are also plenty of babies as you would expect, all bringing their own delights and challenges as they arrive into the world.

That appears to be rectified in the Christmas special as the spoiler images show her cosying up to a newcomer Roger Nobel (Connor O'Donnell). However given his intent gaze and her serious expression could it be over before it begins.
(Image: BBC) Link copiedNot only is Trixie (Helen George) but so is her brother Geoffrey Franklin (Christopher Harper) and it appears the pair move into Nonnatus House. One f the spoiler images shows them carry suitcases as they walk toward the building's iconic staircase as if going to the bedrooms. We will have to wait to see why Trixie isn't in her apartment and what Geoffery is doing in the convent.
