Guests awkwardly laugh after Alex Jones' throuple comment

During a segment on The One Show, the conversation took a surprising turn as host Alex Jones weighed in on the topic of "throuples", causing quite the stir in the studio.

As The Split is poised to grip viewers at the end of March with a gripping two-part special, its stars Nicola Walker and Stephen Mangan joined The One Show to tease what's in store for fans.

The One Show was abuzz not only with talk about the anticipated return of BBC's The Split, but also the project's leads Walker and Mangan's involvement in the upcoming play, Unicorn, as highlighted by host Roman Kemp.

Describing Unicorn, Walker delved into the plot: "They're a very happily married couple.

“They’ve been together for a long time, they have children, and they get to a point in their marriage where they don’t want to split up and they think their marriage might be enhanced by bringing someone else in.”

Alex, 47, elicited surprising laughter from the guests and crew with her deadpan interjection: "Well, you never know...", which apparently caught everyone off guard.

In a bout of laughter that followed, Alan Carr was seen wide-eyed and amused at Alex's unexpected input, after which he managed to muster: "Wow. OK".

Flustered by the reactions, Alex hastily moved on: "Anyway. But, you know, it's a different take on things."

Quick-witted guest Amanda Holden chimed in with a jovial tease: "You know Alan's [Carr] gone up for that role, don't you?"

In an attempt to swiftly return focus to the guests, Alex steered the chat back to Nicola and Stephen's perspectives on the play and their families' reactions to it.

Stephen responded humorously: "I mean, it's about a throuple, and it's weird enough your kids are coming to see a play where you're 'married' or with somebody else when they're not their real mum.

"But to have two women in this play, it's confusing for me, let alone them."
