Pep Guardiola cheekily reminded Liverpool fans of their recent Premier League history during a match on Sunday.

Despite a 2-0 loss to Arne Slot's team and falling 11 points behind in the title race, Guardiola responded to chants of 'You're getting sacked in the morning' from Liverpool fans with a grin and a playful gesture.

He held up six fingers, signifying the six Premier League titles won by City under his leadership, compared to Liverpool's single title win under Jurgen Klopp in the 2019-20 season.

After the final whistle, he applauded all four sides of Anfield before heading down the tunnel.

Micah Richards, former City defender and Sky Sports pundit, criticised the players for letting Guardiola down in his post-match analysis.

"I wouldn't say it's the end of an era," insisted Richards.

"Man City are going through a difficult period. Some of the players are letting him down. Today they were a shadow of their best.

"Pep Guardiola said he was looking for a reaction and they didn't get that. The first half could've been two or three nil to Liverpool."

After the match, Guardiola told Sky Sports: "I said before this game that we weren't in a position to think about targets but the season is long.

"We have to think about making results and then some players will come back and then we'll be better and we'll believe maybe. There are many things to fight for and we're going to try."
