Businesses urged to join Northern Metropolis projects

Chief Executive John Lee on Friday called on the business sector to get on board with the development of the Northern Metropolis, adding that the government will roll out large parcels of land in Hung Shui Kiu, Fanling North and the San Tin Technopole. "The three sites are different in scale and components, suiting varying commercial interests and risk appetite. I'm confident that this would provide the private sector with a brand new and efficient way to participate in our development and in return benefit our society as a whole," Lee said at a signing ceremony for enterprise participation. The CE added that while the development of the Northern Metropolis will be government-led, market participation is just as vital. "With the [Lok Ma Chau] loop and other development areas in the pipeline, the Northern Metropolis will become a region that radiates beyond geographical boundaries. Taking forward a development of this scale and gravitas requires the efforts and resources of all sectors of our community." Zheng Yanxiong, director of the liaison office, told the same ceremony that business leaders should take the initiative in taking forward projects in the Northern Metropolis. "The development of the Northern Metropolis is a major initiative for Hong Kong's innovative development. It represents a focal point for economic growth and breakthrough innovation, and is also a key strategic move for Hong Kong to better integrate into the development of the Greater Bay Area and the country."
