Star Wars: Skeleton Crew release date, how to watch, and all you need to know
Star Wars fans can soon travel back to a galaxy far, far away with the launch of a brand-new original series. Streaming in December, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is the latest live-action series set between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, in the franchise’s New Republic Era.
Billed as Star Wars meets The Goonies, the sci-fi series centres around a group of children searching for their home planet after getting lost on a dangerous, planet-hopping adventure. It hails from Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, the duo best-known for helming Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.
They were inspired to create the series based on Amblin Entertainment’s coming-of-age films from the 1980s, including The Goonies and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Speaking to StarWars.com ahead of the series premiere, Ford said: “Amblin always stands out to me because there was a feeling that they took the kids seriously. They didn’t feel like kids’ movies when you watched them as a kid, and even now looking back, they feel like grown up films that just happened to star kids.
“We’ve all pondered our place in the universe, and this story explores the galaxy through a unique perspective, which is the curious mind of the child in all of us. In this case, an imaginative day dreamer, a risk taker, a loyal best friend and a tech wiz. These kids are in danger. They’re in over their heads.”
Here’s everything you need to know about Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
