Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has issued a stark warning to Marcus Rashford, stating that the forward must "want it" if he is to return to his peak goalscoring form.

Despite netting a goal in Sunday's 1-1 draw against Ipswich, Rashford's performance this season has been underwhelming, with only five goals to his name. He also struggled last year under Erik ten Hag.

The striker was able to score an impressive 30 goals in Ten Hag's debut campaign but has since struggled to regain that form. Amorim believes he can assist Rashford in his journey back to the top, but emphasised that the player himself must have the desire to improve.

"I will try to help him," Amorim stated. "That position is not the best one for him, especially in a game like that [Ipswich]. We had to kick with high pressure, we had to kick the ball so many times and it was like he was fighting with two giants."

"So we'll try to find the right solution for him, as for the other players. But he has to be Marcus, first of all, to try to return to that moment, and then he will have all the help of the staff, the club and the fans because he's a Manchester United boy. But he has to be the first one to want it."

The manager also acknowledged that United's lack of goals this season is a significant issue that needs addressing but he expressed confidence in his players' ability to score more frequently.

"Of course there is a concern in that, but I think we have to improve as a team," Amorim declared. "We have quality players who can score so many goals.

"But you could feel it in the second-half - we controlled possession of the ball but we were not dangerous. Maybe it was because we spent the week trying to work on build up and then the rest was not working.

"We will try to improve as a team and Rasmus [Hojlund] and Joshua [Zirkzee] and Rash will score more goals - even Bruno [Fernandes] has to score more goals!

"Amad has to be better near the goal, all these guys need to improve and then we can score so many goals. If I need a new striker scoring goals? We need to improve as a team and these players can score goals."

Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez are back in training, yet Maguire won't make an appearance in tomorrow's Europa League clash with Bodo/Glimt – Amorim's inaugural match at the helm at Old Trafford.

"Not Harry, but Licha is ready," Amorim confirmed. "He didn’t stop too many times, so I felt that he is ready. It's a different situation with Harry, but we need them both. They are both training, Very soon they will be on the pitch."

On his first home game, Amorim added: "Everybody said to me it will be a special time. I just want to win the game, just to give that happiness to the supporters, Before the match it will be a new sensation, but after it will be one more game and we want to win."
