'GBA trip provides insight into HK's development'

Chief Secretary Eric Chan on Wednesday said a three-day visit to the Greater Bay Area has offered authorities insight into developing the Northern Metropolis project in the New Territories. Concluding the three-day visit to Guangdong province attended by government officials and business leaders, Chan said the trip had met its goal. "This trip to different major cities is purely an introduction, an exchange. We do not require business representatives to make any investments," Chan said. "I hope that they are able to see business opportunities, because they are truly the experts in doing business. When they see business opportunities, naturally, they will hold discussions [with others]." During the trip, enterprises from Guangdong and Hong Kong signed 126 economic and trade cooperation projects worth a total value of more than 100 billion yuan. The delegation also learnt about a “large-scale, land-disposable” development model used in mainland cities, which the SAR administration hopes can be used to expedite development in the Northern Metropolis. Chan also said the government will hold a "promotional event" relating to the mega project on Friday, with local, mainland and foreign companies expected to attend. Finance chief Paul Chan is hammering out the details and will make an announcement in due course, the chief secretary added.
