Manchester United's rising star Chido Obi-Martin is reportedly on the brink of penning a new deal at Old Trafford, following his impressive performances.

The young striker, who previously showcased his talent in Arsenal's academy by scoring prolifically for their Under-18 team and debuting in Premier League 2 at just 15, made the switch to Manchester after being wooed by the Red Devils' persuasive efforts.

His transfer was officially confirmed in October.

Obi-Martin wasted no time making an impact, netting a remarkable hat-trick within 15 minutes on his first start for United's Under-18s against Nottingham Forest. He continued his goal-scoring spree with another against Everton on November 9, boasting an average of a goal every 43 minutes for the club.

The Danish-born forward is set to celebrate his 17th birthday on Friday, which makes him eligible for his first professional contract. It appears that United are eager to secure his services without delay.

Danish publication Tipsbladet has reported that United is ready to offer Obi-Martin a professional contract as a birthday gift. The outlet suggests that the club has already confirmed their intentions for the talented youngster, who has been on a scholarship contract until now.

"Very happy to sign with this amazing club, time to focus and achieve all my dreams," Obi-Martin expressed his enthusiasm on Instagram after his move to United was initially sealed. "Thanks to everyone who has helped me get this far."

Ahead of the big day, he also scored in the Under-18 Premier League Cup. United's young guns secured a 3-0 victory over Leeds United, with Jaydan Kamason and James Scanlon also finding the back of the net.

Obi-Martin has represented England at youth level, but is also eligible to play for Denmark and Nigeria. He was recently in action for Denmark's Under-18s during the international break, scoring in a loss against Finland.

The young star was also on the bench for United's Under-19 side in their UEFA Youth League match against AZ on Tuesday. However, his first taste of European action will have to wait as the Dutch side took a 2-1 lead in the first leg of their knockout clash.

United's Under-18 team have been flawless in the league this season, scoring 43 goals and conceding just four. Meanwhile, Obi-Martin's former club Arsenal have struggled in the south, managing only 10 points from their nine matches.

Adam Lawrence's UEFA Youth League squad have already navigated a second-round encounter with Lithuanian side Zalgiris, and are set to play the second leg of their AZ clash at Old Trafford.

If they manage to overturn their first leg deficit, they'll progress to the round of 32 where 10 domestic Under-18 champions will join 22 teams from the Champions League path - with four English representatives still in the mix.
