Mohamed Salah's future at Liverpool hangs in the balance as his contract demands may prove too steep. Ex-Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has weighed in, suggesting that while Salah is keen to stay with the Reds, he won't hesitate to leave if a lucrative deal isn't offered.

Salah's current contract situation has been a hot topic all season, especially after his decisive role in Liverpool's 3-2 victory over Southampton, where he hinted at an uncertain future by saying he's "more out than in" and revealing no formal contract offer has been made by the club's management.

With his contract set to expire in the summer of 2025, alongside key players like Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool could be facing a critical juncture.

Salah's public comments on his contract talks have drawn criticism from Jamie Carragher, who expressed his disappointment on Monday Night Football, particularly given the timing before crucial matches against Real Madrid and Manchester City.

Murphy has shared his insights with BoyleSports on the potential reasons for the delay in meeting Salah's expectations, stating: "We will know sooner rather than later what will happen with Mohamed Salah. He looks amazing physically and is as sharp as he's been in a long time.

"The way he lives his life, there is no reason he can't carry on the way he is for the next two or three seasons. The thing we don't know is the business side of things. We don't know whether is asking for three years or asking for more money, for example if he wants a four year deal and more money then it's not viable for the club."

While Murphy is confident that Salah and Van Dijk will ultimately agree to new deals to stay at Liverpool, he suspects Trent Alexander-Arnold will decide to seek pastures new next summer amid reported interest from Real Madrid.

"The only reason he [Salah] won't stay is because the club don't want to pay him the money he wants over the length of contract he wants, that's my reading of it. I think he does want to stay at the club and he's made up his mind. I think he will stay at the club and so will Virgil van Dijk, with Alexander-Arnold leaving."

Liverpool are set to continue their impressive run this season with a Champions League showdown against Real Madrid on Wednesday, followed by a crucial Premier League fixture against Manchester City on Sunday. A victory over Guardiola's squad could extend their lead to a staggering 11 points over the current champions.
