Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans returns to BBC show after heartbreaking exit

ML: Wynne Evans returns to BBC television after Strictly exit

Former Strictly Come Dancing’s Wynne Evans returned to our TV screens following his exit from the competition. The Welsh opera singer became the eighth contestant to leave the competition following the dance-off at the legendary Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

Viewers saw him and his professional dance partner Katya Jones compete against Olympian Montell Douglas and Johannes Radebe. He performed an extremely energetic Charleston to Carmen Suite No 1: 5 Les Toreadors by Georges Bizet, while Montell danced an equally frenetic salsa to Thelma Houston's "Don't Leave Me This Way."

Following his exit, Wynne surprised fans as he appeared on BBC Morning Live for a segment as part of Scam Safe Week. The special week of programming is designed to spotlight what viewers can do to protect themselves from being scammed.

Reporting live from Cardiff, consumer champion Matt Allwright was joined by Wynne. Introducing him onto the show, he said: “Good Morning to Morning Live and also good morning to BBC Radio Wales and presenter Wynne Evans, also a Strictly star.”

Wynne had a huge smile as he said: “Yes, something like that. Welcome to Cardiff and welcome to Wales.” Speaking about his own experience with scammers, Wynne opened up and revealed: “I’m a Spurs fan before we start any mickey-taking. I wanted to go to see Spurs in the Champions League final in Madrid.

“I did all the checks and found the right website, well what I thought was the right website and paid a massive amount of money for these tickets only to find out the day before that it was an absolute total scam.”

He continued: “But at this point I had booked hotels, I booked flights, I booked everything and of course it’s embarrassing because my son and I were going to go then I had to tell him that we are not going anymore.

"Luckily, we found other tickets, but it is one of those things where you do feel like ‘why was I so silly to fall for that?’ but as you say, everything looks right.”

Matt jumped in: “Obviously, it’s that emotional moment.” He then joked: “But sadly, you are a Spurs fan because I’m a Liverpool fan, so that was your first mistake”

Wynne burst out laughing as Matt continued: “So in that emotional moment you don’t want to miss out and you want to get involved but the good thing is you’ve opened up and you’ve talked about it and however you have been feeling in that moment. You’ve seen the importance of letting everyone know what is going on.”

The Go Compare star replied: “I think that is important because you are aware that people might be embarrassed about it but if I come out and say ‘I was scammed and lost a lot of money’ then hopefully other people will be more aware.”

BBC Morning Live airs from 9.30 on BBC One and iPlayer
