Dominik Szoboszlai has made it clear to Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group he wants to play with Mohamed Salah as long as possible. Salah was once again the difference-maker for the Reds at Southampton on Sunday.

The Egyptian King scored a second-half brace at St Mary's to take Liverpool from 2-1 down to a huge 3-2 win that puts them eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

The Reds now head into a titanic tussle with Manchester City at Anfield next Sunday knowing victory would put them 11 clear of the defending champions.

Before then, Liverpool face reigning European champions Real Madrid in another high-profile Anfield contest in the Champions League league phase. Former manager Jurgen Klopp failed to beat the Spanish giants in six attempts.

Salah only scored twice in those meetings, both of which ended in comfortable Real Madrid wins. And the 32-year-old will be eager to improve his record in a season in which he has 12 goals and 10 assists in 18 matches across all competitions.

As it stands, this will be Salah's last season at the club after eight seasons. The 223-goal forward, who only needs another 11 league strikes to become the sixth-highest Premier League goalscorer of all time, is out of contract at the end of the season.

Liverpool fans have made it clear they want the club legend to stay. A banner on the Kop references his new celebration and reads: 'He Fires A Bow. Now Give Mo His Dough.'

And after the win over Southampton, Szoboszlai - who made it 1-0 to Liverpool with his first league goal of the season - said to Sky Sports: "Everybody knows Mo, he just needs to keep going. Hopefully I can play with him as long as I can!"

Salah's last update on his future came at the start of the month, when he posted: "Top of the table is where this club belongs. Nothing less. All teams win matches but there's only one champion in the end.

"That's what we want. Thank you for your support last night. No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like."

Speaking after the win over Southampton, the African attacker said: "It's great (to be top). Hopefully we keep going in that direction and also we have a game against them (Man City) so hopefully we win it and go more, like 11 points, ahead of them.

"The most important thing was the reaction, we showed that really well."

"They're having a bad time now but they're going to strike back, they have a great coach, great players and hopefully we can beat them and go further (clear of them)."

Szoboszlai similarly said: "Of course it's a great feeling but as you say, it's the beginning of the season. We still need to continue and don't think about where City are, where Arsenal are, where the other teams are.

"Because as long as we do how we do now, we're going to continue. You've seen in the last six years they've (City) won five titles. It's never finished until it's finished."
