Despite rampant rumours, beleaguered Rangers boss Philippe Clement will not be leaving the club tonight, according to Ibrox insiders.

The whispers, which have been circulating on social media and WhatsApp, suggested that a 6pm press briefing was being arranged to announce his exit by "mutual consent".

However, high-ranking club sources have dismissed these claims as "nonsense" to Record Sport. Despite this, Clement's position remains precarious following Saturday's 1-1 draw with Dundee United.

The result leaves Rangers trailing Premiership leaders Celtic by 11 points and second-placed Aberdeen by eight, just 12 games into the season.

The team were met with a chorus of boos after their disappointing performance against Jim Goodwin's side, played out in front of numerous empty seats - a sight that is sure to concern the Rangers board.

They are currently preparing to welcome Malcolm Offord as the new chairman and former Manchester United executive Patrick Stewart as the successor to James Bisgrove as CEO.

For now, however, Clement will stay at the helm, with plans for him to oversee Thursday's Europa League match against Nice in France.

Clement said after the Dundee United draw: “It’s very frustrating to lose points and already we have lost too many points this season.

“So, we know we don't have credit in the bank, we knew before we don't have credit in the bank. In that way, about the performance, the second half I've seen what I want to see of my team.

“I want to see how we play football, I want to see how we press, how we create chances, how we don't concede chances. So, everything was there, only not the second goal to make and that's the frustrating thing after this evening.

“First half I was not satisfied, I didn't see enough bravery, enough movement, enough initiative from the team. So, we need to show more of what we did in the second half and that's what we need to show more in the future.”
