BBC Breakfast's Nina Warhurst leaves co-host speechless with confession

BBC Breakfast: Nina Warhurst tells Charlie about her phobia

BBC Breakfast's Nina Warhurst shared she has a rather unusual phobia during Thursday's show. During the programme, the BBC star and her co-host Charlie Stayt were reading some of the latest headlines to viewers.

Taking a delve inside one of the papers, she found a story which caught her interest regarding phobias. Nina explained there's a Swedish politician called Paulina Brandberg who is scared of bananas.

Turning to Charlie, she asked: "The wider article is about completely irrational phobias. So, fear of buttons, balloons and tomatoes. It's an area of psychology where they don't necessarily know where it comes from."

Nina then went on to share her own phobia, which she confessed she had only discovered a few years ago. She told Charlie: "It's called Trypophobia, which is a fear of small clusters, holes or bumps."

The BBC star gave an example to Charlie, confessing: "It just makes me shudder! Or seeing the inside of a beehive, makes me shudder. Anything like that."

Although Charlie seemed completely perplexed as he asked: "So it's something to do with the surface?"

Looking around for an example, he questioned whether or not the holes in the sofa they were sitting on would count.

She replied: "That's fine because the bumps aren't visible, that's alright. There will be something in here that makes me uncomfortable, let's not try and seek it out!"

Going back to the article Nina originally mentioned, Charlie was stunned to discover people had a fear of buttons, confessing he'd never heard of it before.

Nina replied: " Yeah, my sister has a button phobia! She doesn't know why, it just makes her feel icky if she sees buttons."

Confused, Charlie asked how that was possible as she must see buttons all the time throughout her day.

The BBC presenter added: "She avoids clothes with buttons on."

Charlie asked: "What about other people's buttons?"

Laughing at her co-stars's curiosity, Nina replied: "Not happy but has had to learn to live alongside it!"

Clearly bemused, he added: "Wow, that's tricky."
