William Ellery has become one of New York City's foremost outdoor goods brands through its unique ethos: one that not only welcomes — but encourages — customer feedback. This community-minded creation process is most apparent in its long-running Lichen Socks project, created in collaboration with the knitters at North Carolina-based Knestknit. Now on its 15th iteration, the Lichen Socks are a small-batch creation that evolves based on customer feedback (both the socks' packaging and the William Ellery website offer gateways to a link where you can provide your thoughts to the WE team) and, this time around, the socks have evolved into a heavily-textured, naturally-vented style with rich, earthy patterns and materials.

The socks' outer uses what the brand calls "suspended mesh" to create natural channels for ventilation all over the wearer's foot and offers a patern inspired by the lichen and moss that develop on oak trees. On the other side, the interior lining features cozy wool strands that are a product of cutting and splicing yarns during the knitting process. This iteration of the Lichen Socks is also the lightest ever, weighing in at 2.1 oz and featuring a stretchy one-size-fits-all construction. it's made from 70% super fine merino wool, 25% nylon and 5% elastic.
