I'm A Celeb: Dean McCullough calls Coleen by infamous nickname

Dean McCullough divided viewers' opinions just minutes into the ITV series as they ranted, "Tone it down!" The BBC Radio 1  presenter joined his fellow campmates Down Under for I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

Some disgruntled viewers issued a similar complaint about the 32-year-old, who became an instant meme sensation on the new series with his cheeky humour.

The BBC Radio 1 DJ divided opinion with his excitable energy and over-the-top reactions, which some viewers found grating.

During the opening scenes, contestants Oti Mabuse, Tulisa Constovalos, Danny Jones, Jane Moore and Dean were tasked with drinking an unpleasant beverage before flying off a helicopter.

The radio DJ struggled to chug down a blend of fish eye, bull's penis and vomit fruit garnish.

Another remarked: "Dean is far too performative I know it’s tv but just be yourself #ImACeleb."

A third remarked: "I wish Dean would stop screaming darlin!"(sic)

A fourth added: "Ok - that Dean fella is beyond irritating #ImACeleb."

Others rushed to his defence as another penned: "Dean is an instant favourite. Bringing the comedy we need. I’m sat #ImACeleb."

As the ITV show kicked off this series, Danny, Tulisa, Jane, Dean, and Oti had to do the iconic skydive into the jungle.

Meanwhile, Barry McGuigan, GK Barry, Alan Halsall, Coleen, and Melvin Odoom waited at the beach for the other five campmates to join them.

The celebrities doing the skydive then had to take their turns to pick which celebrity they wanted to compete in a race to the finish line.

Once Dean had to choose between Coleen and his Radio 1 colleague Melvin, he said, 'Melvin, I'm so sorry! Wagatha Christie, you're coming with me!'

Viewers found the moment hilarious as they penned on X afterwards: "Did Dean actually say 'Wagatha Christie you're coming with me'? #ImACeleb."

"Not Dean saying Wagatha Christie #ImACeleb," another mused.

A third chuckled: "Dean did what any follower of Wagatha Christie would do #ImACeleb."
