'20 used fake DSE certs to apply for Macau university'

Education minister Christine Choi on Saturday said the authorities have stepped up screening after 20 people used forged DSE certificates to apply for the Macau University of Science and Technology. Speaking on a radio programme, she said the university suspected that the documents were bogus and had contacted the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA). "This is outrageous. There were 20 fake DSE certificates. For anyone who has doubts about the DSE results, we can help. The HKEAA keeps a record of the DSE results and can help verify them," Choi said. The minister said the authorities have reported the cases to the police. Choi added that some people had used fake academic qualifications to gain admission to universities in Hong Kong, but she said applications are now being checked more closely. Meanwhile, she said a task group on setting up the SAR's third medical school will hold its second meeting later this month. "Based on the expected requirements, the universities which are interested can make changes to their proposals and examine their own qualifications... So this is not a race to see who hands in their proposals fastest," she said.
