Ruud van Nistelrooy may go back on word and accept role days after Man Utd exit
Burnley may make another attempt to secure Ruud van Nistelrooy as their new manager following his recent departure from Manchester United, according to reports. The Dutchman, 48, was let go from Old Trafford after new boss Ruben Amorim decided to bring in his own coaching team from Sporting.
Van Nistelrooy, a United icon who netted 150 goals for the club between 2001 and 2006, had overseen their last four matches before the international break as caretaker manager, securing three wins and one draw.
He was placed in temporary charge after Erik ten Hag's dismissal last month, having returned to Manchester in July as an assistant coach, 18 years after leaving on poor terms as a player.

Despite a strong start, Burnley's form has dipped recently, with just one win in their last five games, leaving them fourth in the Championship.

The Turf Moor faithful is becoming increasingly disgruntled with Parker's style of play, with some supporters even calling for the 44-year-old manager to be sacked - a possibility Burnley are not dismissing.
And according to The Sun, Van Nistelrooy still has admirers in East Lancashire. The Clarets are said to be keeping an eye on him following his United exit.
That said, it's suggested that Pace is likely to stick with Parker - who has twice won promotion from the Championship as a manager - for the foreseeable future.
Burnley fully supported Kompany last season despite looking destined for their latest Premier League relegation for the majority.

Just nine goals in their last 13 games isn't what fans were expecting, but Burnley did secure a much-needed 1-0 victory against Swansea City on Saturday.
A 94th-minute penalty from Jay Rodriguez helped alleviate some of the pressure on Parker ahead of the international break.
