Ruben Amorim has dropped his biggest hint yet that he will persist with his three-at-the-back system at the start of his Manchester United tenure. The Sporting boss is set to instil a drastic change when United travel to Ipswich Town in the Premier League on November 24.

Amorim spoke out ahead of his Old Trafford arrival after his farewell match at Sporting last night, a dramatic 4-2 win at Braga, having trailed 2-0 at half-time.

He also confirmed that he would talk with United interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy about the Dutchman's future once he lands in England today.

Amorim has acknowledged that he will have less time than he would like on the Carrington training pitches during a hectic fixture schedule across the opening months of his reign.

The 39-year-old will be tasked with two games a week until the New Year, requiring plenty of rest days and analysis.

Therefore, he has heavily suggested that he will stick with his three-at-the-back system rather than try to adapt his philosophy immediately.

"I know how I am going to play in the beginning, because you have to start with a structure that you know," Amorim explained after Sporting's win at Braga.

"Then you will adapt with the players that you have, some injuries, or no injuries, what kind of players have the abilities to defend, attack, I will discover that in the next few weeks.

"We don't have a lot of time to train, so I have to show something that I know very well. You can take whatever you want from that."

Van Nistelrooy has steadied the ship since Erik ten Hag's sacking last month, unbeaten as interim manager and winning three of his four games in charge.

The United icon shared an emotional embrace with Old Trafford after yesterday's 3-0 victory over Leicester City, which felt to many like a farewell.

Shortly after, Van Nistelrooy revealed that he would discuss his future with Amorim and the club later in the evening or today.

Amorim confirmed those plans in his post-match press conference, claiming he already knows what he wants to do as he prepares to bring his own staff to United.

The 39-year-old added: "[We're talking] about a legend of the club. He did a great job. I have to talk with him tomorrow.

"Then I will explain everything. I am very clear and I will tell you like it is. Let's wait until tomorrow."

Amorim isn't expected to oversee any training sessions until next week as he waits for his VISA and for United's international players to return.
