Emmerdale enthusiasts reckon they've cracked the case on who will expose Tom King (portrayed by James Chase) - and it appears this person hasn't even set foot in the village yet.

For months, audiences have witnessed Tom exerting control and inflicting abuse on his spouse, Belle Dingle (played by Eden Taylor-Draper), with signs pointing to his downfall being imminent.

Initially, the cunning vet had everyone duped into believing Belle was the aggressor and that she was delusional. But before long, Tom's facade began to crumble, and now it seems the entire Dingle clan and villagers are turning their backs on him.

In a desperate bid to maintain his ruse, Tom has resorted to extreme actions to ensure his uncle Jimmy (Nick Miles) remains an ally, especially after Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) left the family home.

His schemes escalated to vandalising his own vehicle and staging an assault against himself to reinforce his victimhood narrative to Jimmy, reports Leeds Live.

Yet, could it be that Jimmy is starting to see through his nephew's deceit?

The fanbase has been buzzing with speculation about the identity of Tom's nemesis and the timing of his unmasking.

A theory posted by a devotee on a Facebook group dedicated to the show speculates that Tom's sister might be the one to reveal his 'true' colours. Others think a brand-new character might be the key to his undoing.

One fan speculated: "A new character is going to expose Tom and he do a runner after he claims he's been attacked."

One person speculated: "That's BS if he does a runner. I need to see him go down! But mind you he can't because they'll need to have a trial and it ends at Xmas."

"His sister," another viewer suggested, putting forward their own theory.

Adding to the speculation, a fan commented: "An old flame, perhaps."

Emmerdale is gearing up for an emotional climax as Belle and Tom's story reaches its conclusion in a forthcoming special hour-long episode. This poignant episode will incorporate the real-life experiences of domestic abuse victims and survivors.

Discussing the powerful narrative, Emmerdale Producer Laura Shaw said: "When we first embarked on this journey, we knew we wanted to show domestic abuse, coercive control, and manipulation in all its guises.

"The privilege we have on a drama such as Emmerdale is being able to show the reality of a situation like Belle's over a longer period of time to authentically reflect what so many people go through in real life on a daily basis."

She elaborated: "We knew from the outset that Belle would need some sort of closure on Tom, and we know our Emmerdale audience always look forward to our villains getting their comeuppance. We don't want to spoil the outcome of this story and reveal what will happen to Tom, but needless to say, Belle's going to be in a much better place by this Christmas."

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV.
