Coronation Street: Paul Foreman makes a surprise return

Coronation Street delivered a jaw-dropping twist on Wednesday (November 6) with the unexpected return of a beloved character, believed to have been lost forever.

In an unforeseen comeback in Weatherfield, Paul Foreman (portrayed by Peter Ash) reappeared just weeks following his heartbreaking demise due to motor neurone disease.

The heartrending instalment saw Paul's loved ones congregate at The Rovers Return to celebrate his life by launching his ashes into the ether, fulfilling his wish for a celestial farewell.

However, overwhelmed with sorrow, Billy Mayhew (played by Daniel Brocklebank) found himself unable to bear the sight of the video tribute. After one whisky too many, he interrupted the gathering with a distressing proclamation.

A sodden vicar disillusioned with the proceedings declared to the pub-goers: "This is a circus, it has nothing to do with Paul."

Sharply, he switched off the television and lamented: "It's a farce. He's already gone, and I didn't even get to say goodbye to him and now I don't even have any of his ashes."

Trying to provide solace, Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) comforted her son-in-law Billy, insisting he had been a devoted partner to Paul and should not torment himself with guilt.

Provoked by Bernie's comments, Billy proceeded to shock the patrons of the Rovers with a startling confession about trying to kiss Todd on the day of Paul's funeral, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Exposing his guilt, he announced to those present: "Hear that Todd? Some loving husband."

He confessed to the crowd: "I tried to kiss Todd on the day of Paul's funeral. That's what kind of loving husband I am."

Bernie was reduced to tears upon hearing this, while Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) hurled accusations at Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce).

Following the tumultuous revelations, Billy swiftly departed from the pub seeking solace at the bottom of another bottle of liquor.

The sombre mother sought out Todd to grasp the gravity of his run-in with Billy, leading them to a distressing realisation of Billy's absence, fearing he was in a drunken state somewhere.

Bernie implored Todd to trust his gut feeling if he suspected Billy was in jeopardy, and together they resolved to locate him.

Alone and inebriated, Billy was found beside a road, lost in the melodies of Paul's cherished tunes, gazing at old photographs, while shunning Todd's attempted communication until his mobile's battery depleted.

In a poignant moment, Billy appeared to slip away into unconsciousness, only for Paul to startlingly resurface, chiding Billy with the candid words: "Get up you lazy arse".

He continued with urgency: "Come on Billy, wakey wakey. You can't stay here all night. You'll freeze to death. Come on, get up Billy boy. Get up."

The cliffhanger leaves us pondering whether Paul's blunt admonition will rescue Billy from his frigid plight on the desolate street.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV and ITVX.
