Liverpool have reportedly contacted Aurelien Tchouameni's representatives to gauge his interest in joining them from Real Madrid. The Reds tried to sign him before he arrived in the Spanish capital and were linked with a renewed pursuit in the summer.

Their interest has remained following the appointment of Arne Slot and a move is still under consideration, according to transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri. It is said that Liverpool have opened talks with Tchouameni's associates in the hope of finally bringing him to Anfield.

Real Madrid are thought to be open to selling the Frenchman, who they signed from Monaco in the summer of 2022. They would reportedly be willing to consider offers in the region of £50million after identifying a number of potential replacements.

The report adds that Real Madrid are keen on signing Rodri from Manchester City to shore up their midfield ranks. Chelsea playmaker Enzo Fernandez is listed as a back-up option in case the Premier League champions refuse to do business.

Liverpool are said to believe that Tchouameni has the ideal profile for their defensive midfield role under Slot. Ryan Gravenberch has excelled in that position of late but it seems the Reds are still looking to upgrade on the Dutchman.

They tried to strengthen in the middle of the park during the summer but were unable to improve on the options already at their disposal. Martin Zubimendi was their top target but the 25-year-old ultimately chose to stay at Real Sociedad.

It remains to be seen if Real Madrid would be willing to sell Tchouameni in January or if they would only consider letting him go at the end of the season. He remains tied down until 2028, having signed a six-year deal upon his arrival at the Bernabeu.

Tchouameni is currently nursing an ankle injury which is expected to keep him on the treatment table for around four weeks. He was booed by Real Madrid fans after making a mistake against AC Milan on Tuesday before being hooked at the interval.

He is also yet to score or provide an assist despite making 15 appearances in all competitions so far this season. Tchouameni's stuttering form may have influenced Real Madrid's decision to seek alternative options, which could allow Liverpool to pounce.

Only time will tell if the Reds can finally land their man over the coming months, with his current employers seemingly open to letting him leave.
