BBC Strictly pro on real reason two show stars keep avoiding dreaded dance off

Strictly: Sam Quek is eliminated from the competition

Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans and Pete Wicks have so far avoided being in the bottom two. Sam Quek was the latest star to be eliminated from the competition during Sunday night's results show.

With the 20th series of the BBC dancing competition at its halfway mark, certain celebrities who were expected to make it far are now finding themselves being sent home.

Brendan Cole has now addressed his thoughts on how some show stars have avoided being in the dreaded dance-off.

The 48-year-old dancer, who hails from New Zealand, was a pro dancer on the long-running BBC dance competition from 2004 to 2017.

He also served as a judge on the New Zealand version of the show — Dancing With The Stars — from 2005 to 2009.

The former Strictly star suggested both Wynne and Pete have performed well throughout the series.

Speaking on behalf of Sky Vegas Brendan told Express Online: “He [Wynne Evans] did a really good Rumba. They [the judges] were a bit harsh on Katya [Jones] saying she was flying around. She was being the perfect dancer for him.

He danced really well, so did she. It was a good, solid number for a Rumba, and I was quite impressed with what he did."

The pro dancer continued: “I think the whole look, the outfit, the way he [Pete Wicks] tried to portray Freddie [Mercury], was actually brilliant and really well done. The salsa was completely average in terms of the dance, but the look and the feel and what he brought to the character, he looked like Freddie.

“He moved like Freddie, which is great. He's interpreted what he was told to interpret. I am kind of glad we got to see that in his Salsa, other than just a normal Salsa because that might have been terrible.”

Sticking to his Welsh roots, Wynne honoured Dame Shirley Bassey by dancing the Rumba to This is My Life with partner Katya Jones on Saturday night.

Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabusi scored the couple seven out of 10 and Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke awarded them eight points, giving them 30 out of 40.

Reality star Pete transformed into Freddie Mercury to perform a Salsa to Another One Bites The Dust with Jowita Pryzstal.

He apologised to Jowita at the end of their routine and his mistakes didn't go unnoticed by the judges. Craig awarded Pete and Jowita four points and Shirley, Anton and Motsi gave them six points each, making a grand total of just 22 out of 40.
