Ruben Amorim has received a vote of confidence as the ideal candidate to take the reins at Manchester United. After Erik ten Hag's exit from the helm on Monday due to an underwhelming season start, having secured a mere four victories in all competitions, Amorim is tipped for the top job at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag's departure paved the way for the dramatic managerial shift, and it looks like United are on the brink of revealing Amorim as their official choice.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is holding down the fort as interim manager until the international hiatus, taking charge of upcoming games against Chelsea, PAOK and Leicester City.

In his time managing Sporting, Amorim has clinched two Primeira Liga crowns over four years, breaking a 19-year title famine during his inaugural full season.

Ex-Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor, who shared his coaching course with Amorim, is staunch in his belief that the 39-year-old Portuguese has what it takes to restore United to former glories.

Agbonlahor recounted his experience with Amorim on talkSPORT, stating: "I did do my coaching badges with him. You do your own sessions because you have to pass the badges.

"But he was one of the ones who was there, and you could tell he was so into it in a way that he had to get his badges to go and start managing.

"It's not as easy as people think. You put on different sessions. The first one I put on was a crossing and finishing session, keep ball session then a shooting session. He was very focused."

Elaborating on Sporting's prowess under Amorim's leadership, Agbonlahor praised their impressive goal-scoring record since the previous season and highlighted their two titles within five seasons after a long drought.

"I just think when you look at what he's done since leaving Braga to Sporting Lisbon, winning their first title in 19 years, Manchester United have got the right man," Agbonlahor continued.

Amid persistent speculation throughout the week, United have reportedly agreed to meet the £8.3m release clause set out by Sporting and pay a little extra for his coaching staff.

Amorim, confident in the process, indicated that the discussions, now pivoting on his backroom staff's terms, are expected to close successfully imminently.

"It's a negotiation between two clubs, which isn't easy. After the game on Friday, we will have all these clarifications. Then the decision will be known. Soon the soap opera will end," he confidently declared.

Emphasising personal growth and ambition, Amorim added, "I think that in everyone's life there are times when we're doing really well, but then we want something more, maybe to prove something more. I think all coaches need a good backroom staff.

"I don't want to go into too much detail. That was one of the reasons I always wanted to stay here, it was the people I work with."

Amorim's switch to United could be confirmed after tonight's league clash against Estrela Amadora.
