Wayne Rooney's job and Plymouth sack decision assessed by ex-Arsenal ace
Graham Stack remains unwavering in his faith in Plymouth Argyle's decision-making, despite a run of inconsistent results under Wayne Rooney's leadership.
Argyle's recent form has been patchy, failing to clinch victory in their last three games, yet they managed an impressive 3-3 draw against Preston recently. This followed a heavy 5-0 loss to Cardiff City, a game Rooney had to watch from the stands due to a red card received earlier in the season.
With Plymouth gearing up for a potential relegation battle ahead of their next match at Leeds on Saturday, the mood could be sombre. However, Stack sees a silver lining.
After a tough period at Home Park that ended under controversial circumstances, Stack is still a staunch supporter of Argyle's future success. The former Arsenal and Wolves goalkeeper praised the club's potential in an interview with Plymouth Live, in partnership with Altenar.com.
"Plymouth has got the potential to be a fantastic club, a really, really successful club," he enthused. "I mean a team that's got the potential to be a top-10 team in the Championship most seasons, because of the support they've got and the stadium and the atmosphere they can get there. It's incredible, it really is. The Green Army, they are different class when they get going.
"And listen, having Wayne Rooney at the helm; he's been on a top, top run recently. I know they got hammered at Cardiff when he was in the stand, but it looks like he's got them ticking, which is good."
No club has found it tougher to rack up points away from home in the Championship than Plymouth, eking out a mere point from half a dozen away encounters and notching just a single goal. Nevertheless, a sequence of unbeaten fixtures at Home Park, complete with three triumphs, has ignited a glimmer of optimism amongst the team members.

Initially, the situation appeared dire following a winless start in the first quartet of league tilts with Rooney taking charge, but Stack has expressed satisfaction that the outfit chose to maintain faith in Rooneys management.
"It did [look precarious for Rooney]," Stack - who claimed five caps for the Gunners' senior team - conceded, speaking on the gaffer's initial challenges. "But fair play to the chairman and the people involved above, because they could have probably pulled the trigger and got him out, and got someone else in who takes another two or three months to settle in."
"So fair play to the folk at Plymouth and the brass whove stayed the course with him. And Im rooting for it to work out in their favour too."

Rooney may feel a certain pressure to excel on the south coast following his underwhelming stint at Birmingham City, where he was dismissed after less than three months. His earlier triumph at Derby County was ultimately overshadowed by financial difficulties that resulted in the club's relegation under his leadership.
Despite his accomplishments as a player, there's a feeling Rooney needs to prove something extra at Plymouth if he's to convince others he can replicate that success from the dugout. And Stack is not only supporting the England legend, but also the entire Argyle team to weather the storm and fulfil their potential.
