Apple Intelligence Has Officially Arrived
Apple Intelligence has launched as part of the iOS 18.1 update, as well as iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1. Marking the first iteration of Apple’s in-house Artificial Intelligence, the update delivers a suite of new features designed to make tasks easier and quicker.
Among them is Writing Tools, which lives across Mail, Messages and Notes, along with third-party apps. Under the Writing Tools umbrella is Rewrite. The feature offers users different versions of the text they've written in different tones, whether they’re seeking something more friendly or a text more professional. Proofread, meanwhile, checks for grammar and sentence structure and suggests edits.
The Photo app has been revamped to make it easier for users to search for photos. For instance, a user could say “Maya skateboarding in a tie-dye shirt” and the app will procure the relevant pic. Clean Up allows users to quickly edit photos and remove unwanted background subjects.
Siri has also been further integrated into the operating system, working across virtually all apps. The bot also can answer more questions about Apple products, guiding users through executing certain tasks on their devices.
Other features – such as Genmoji generation and a drawing-to-photo tool called Image Wand – are slated to arrive come the next OS update in December. Apple will also be gradually rolling out additional capabilities in the coming months.
Currently available on the iPhone 15 Pro and later models, the “first set” of Apple Intelligence features is free to download now through iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1. Devices must be set to US English to access Apple Intelligence.
