Prime Video has unveiled the eagerly anticipated first glimpse of the second season of the enthralling thriller featuring Line of Duty's Martin Compston.

The series, which also stars Game of Thrones' Iain Glen and Schitt's Creek's Emily Hampshire, made history as the streaming service's first original production shot entirely in Scotland.

Upon its debut in January 2023, it quickly rose to become one of Prime Video's most-watched dramas, leaving legions of viewers clamouring for the sequel.

After a near two-year wait, Prime Video has now announced that The Rig's second season is set to premiere in January of next year, alongside a sneak peek at the new episodes.

Glen, Hampshire, and Compston are all set to reprise their roles, joined by Rochenda Sandall and Mark Addy, reports the Mirror.

New faces joining the ensemble include Alice Krige, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, Ross Anderson, Phil McKee, and Johannes Roaldsen Furst, as confirmed by the streamer.

Moreover, the upcoming season promises a dramatic shift in locale, transporting the drama to a clandestine facility within the Arctic Circle.

The show has already captivated audiences with its enigmatic allure. A glowing five-star review raved: "This was one of the best thought out shows I've ever seen.

"The scenery was amazing and so well executed and same with the story line. Every episode you always wanted to know more which made it more gripping."

"The fact that it wasn't too wild with the supernatural activity made it perfect and almost like it was real.

"To add to that the casting was amazing and they fit the roles so well I'd happily watch season 2 if there is one to come."

Another chimed in with praise, stating: "I loved the show and found it really gripping.

"Wanted to keep watching after each episode and was a bit gutted when it was over. I just really hope they make another one."

A third viewer reflected on the compelling nature of the series, commenting: "The Rig was absolutely brilliant. it gets you within the first few minutes which I love because I easily get bored but this was just excellent, but it also makes you think about nature paying us back for the way we treat our planet. I'll say no more. don't want to spoil it for you. it's a full 10/10 from me."

An additional fan enthused about the nail-biting experience: "Very good and edge of seat stuff.

"Shame it is only one season at the moment, excited to see what happens in the next series."

Moreover, an intriguing summary has been unveiled for the upcoming season: "Helicopters have taken the surviving crew of the Kinloch Bravo to a new secret offshore facility called the Stac, nestled deep in the extraordinary and deadly landscapes of the Arctic Circle.
