Samsung Launches its Latest Flagship Tablets, the Galaxy Tab S10 Series

Samsung has updated its line of flagship tablets with the introduction of the Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra and the Galaxy Tab S10+, a pair of Android-powered devices the Korean tech giant says are its "first tablets purposefully built for AI."

The new tablets bring some notable performance upgrades over those that preceded them, with everything from graphics capabilities to raw computing power seeing a boost. Samsung says that the Galaxy Tab S10 series' CPU has been bettered by 18% compared to the S9 Ultra (the previous generation's top model), while the graphics processing unit (GPU) has seen a performance increase of 28%. And, given Samsung's stated ambitions in AI, the neural processing unit (NPU) – the part responsible for the devices's AI abilities – in the new S10 range has also been upgraded by 14%.

Given that Samsung is the world's largest screen manufacturer, it perhaps shouldn't come as a surprise that the new tablets feature some of the nicest displays you can find on a tablet. While it's the smaller of the two, the S10+ has a 12.4-inch display making it one of the largest tablet screens on the market; the S10 Ultra goes even bigger with a huge 14.6-inch screen that's considerably larger than the competition (Apple's largest tablet has a 13-inch screen). Both models feature a dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate, making them great gaming tablets, and both promise to perform well in bright environments thanks to a peak brightness of 930 nits on the S10 Ultra and 650 nits in the S10+. And, depending on how bright or not the environment is that you're in while using the device, Samsung has built in adaptive modes like High Brightness Mode and Vision Booster that automatically adjust your screen for the best viewing experience.

Powering the new tablets is the Dimensity 9300+, a chipset that may come as a surprise to some considering Samsung opted to go with Snapdragon processors in the S10 series. However, in terms of performance, the Dimensity 9300+ is supposedly on par with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the current flagship processor for Android devices. The S10 Ultra tops comes with 12GB of RAM as standard (in both the 256GB and 512GB options), but tops out at 16GB or RAM (in the 1TB model, only); the S10+ is only available with 12GB or RAM (in 256GB and 512GB storage options). Notably, both models have a Micro SD card slot to allow users to increase their storage – this hasn't changed since the Tab S9 series and remains one of the stronger selling points of Samsung's devices.

Samsung is touting the AI capabilities of its new tablets with several of these relating to productivity. These include Note Assist, where users' notes can be automatically summarized and transcribed (including those written by hand with the S Pen stylus), and Handwriting Help which (as the name suggests) actually helps to tidy up messy handwritten notes. Another, Sketch to Image, turns user doodles into drawings, so that even the artistically challenged are able to visualize what's in their mind. Samsung's S Pen stylus is also included as standard in the box with each device, unlike its largest competitor which sells its stylus separately.

Both the S10 Ultra and the S10+ feature a quad speaker setup for loud, clean sound. AI plays a part here, too, as the onboard microphones are further improved through Dialogue Boost, AI software that helps to amplify a user's voice and isolate background noise for ultra-clear audio on calls. Both models are also IP68-rated, meaning they are completely dust-resistant and – the best part – practically waterproof, as they can be survive being submerged in water 1-meter (3-feet) deep for up to 30 minutes. Samsung has also reinforced both devices with what it calls Armor Aluminum, a sturdy metal it says is "built to handle bumps and scrapes to use anytime, anywhere." So, if you're planning to use these devices whilst out and about or even whilst poolside, you're probably going to be ok.

Battery life on both models is impressive with the larger S10 Ultra housing a 11200 mAh battery and a slightly smaller 10090 mAh battery in the S10+. Depending on how you use the tablets – with graphics heavy applications such as games using more resources – you can expect to get anywhere from a full day to two or more before needing to charge.

The Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra and Galaxy Tab S10+ are available now at most retailers and at Samsung's website. Both models come in two color choices, Moonstone Grey and Platinum Silver, with the S10+ starting at $999 USD and the S10 Ultra starting at $1199 USD.
