Thomas Tuchel has obvious experiment to stop England job blowing up in his face

Thomas Tuchel is the next chemist to step into the England laboratory and he will have to get all the components right to avoid it blowing up in his face.

The Lee Carsley experiment went up in a puff of smoke and the FA are taking a big risk with a hydrogen appointment like Tuchel. The hothead isn't exactly known for keeping a lid on things.

When Tuchel finally dons the white cloak and safety glasses - hopefully that's the most cautious he will be.

Goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and, most importantly, strikers, are football's periodic table.

You need the right balance to get that explosive reaction. It's a simple formula: to win games, you have to score goals. It raises the question - would it make more sense to put two goalscorers on the pitch rather than one?

It's definitely better to put two goalscorers on the pitch than none, Lee Carsley. It could be a test worth trialing.

If you've got one striker that scored five goals in the Bundesliga and another that has four in the Premier League - play them both together.

One drops deep (sometimes very deep), one runs off the shoulder. You know which is which.

One can hold the ball up and bring others into play. The other can poach inside the penalty box.

Tuchel has the right elements to put into the melting pot and if he plays Harry Kane and Ollie Watkins together, he could get one hell of a reaction.

England rugby

It's going to feel like an eternity for Felix Jones after the England rugby coach was made to work his 12-month notice period remotely.

Steve Borthwick must believe Jones is planning to join a rival nation - perhaps Ireland with good friend Aled Walters - to cut him out completely and limit his tasks to opposition analysis.
