Bradley Walsh cheekily broke the rules after he revealed a telling "pattern" for the answers on The Chase.

During Thursday's visit (October 17) to the ITV studios, the former Coronation Street star welcomed four new contestants onto the show.

As viewers tuned in to the primetime show, the 64-year-old TV presenter welcomed Simon, Tom, Claire and Siobhan onto the programme to put their general knowledge to the test.

The quartet went up against Anne 'The Governess' Hegerty as she brought her A game for the intelligent bunch.

First up to the podium was Simon who showed off his impressive general knowledge skills after raking in an impressive £7,000 in his nail-biting cashbuilder round.

As Simon took on the pro quizzer, the dad-of-two spotted a theme with the gruelling answers. After the third question, Bradley pointed out "there's been three A's in a row now."

const loadOvpScript=()=>{let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=118222&playerApiId=v118222');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)};window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v118222"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript();ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript();ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)})

He warned the player: "Don't go A again - we've had three A's. I know they come out random - but don't go A again." Simon certainly took his advice and managed to sail through to the final round after correctly answering two more questions - without selecting A.

At the end of the round, he congratulated the Welsh star for his success before he passed on a piece of advice to viewers watching at home.

He chuckled: "For those tuning in, watch the pattern at home - three A's, a C and a B" before the next player stepped up for the challenge.

Tom followed in Simon's shoes and also raked in an impressive £7,000 in the cashbuilder round.

Things took an uncomfortable turn when Bradley asked the quizzer a question about One Direction just hours after it was announced that former band member Liam Payne had tragically died.

The singer sadly passed away at the age of 31 after falling from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Wednesday (October 16).

The ill-timed question didn't go unnoticed by fans online, as they flooded to X - formerly known as Twitter - to share their heartache online.

One user penned: "A 1D question on #TheChase... on today, of all days..." as another agreed: "One Direction klaxon. Such a shame about Liam! [four crying emojis] #TheChase."

A third argued: "1D question. That fell flate #thechase" as another agreed: "That One Direction question... #TheChase."

Despite the awkard question blunder, Tom managed to sail through to the final round alongside his two other contestants Siobhan and Claire with a total of £24,000 in the jackpot.

In the final round, the team of four managed to successfully answer 19 questions in two minutes. But unfortunately, The Governess left no room for error after she caught the team with 40 seconds remaining, sending them home empty-handed.

The Chase airs on weekdays from 5pm on ITV1 or catch up on ITVX.
