Six officers jailed over operation involving homeless

Six police officers have been jailed for 25 to 41 months each for perverting the course of justice relating to an operation involving homeless people in 2020. The officers – Leung Fei-pang, Pong Chun-sze, Lam Wah-ka, Mok Chi-shing, Wan Pak-sze and Chan Sau-yip – were convicted last month of falsely accusing a man of possessing drugs, and blocking CCTV cameras during the operation in Sham Shui Po. At Thursday's sentencing, District Court judge Kathie Cheung said perverting the course of justice is a serious offence, and the officers had abused their powers and undermined public confidence in the force. Lam, a sergeant and the most senior officer at the scene, was imprisoned for 41 months; Mok, Wan and Chan each received 37-month sentences; and Leung and Pong were each given 25-month jail terms.
