Sludge metal legends Acid Bath to reunite after 28 years for Sick New World festival

Sludge metal legends Acid Bath will be reuniting to play their first show since 1997 at Sick New World Festival.

Their newly announced performance at the Las Vegas festival – set to take place on April 12 2025 – will mark the band’s first show in 28 years.

Acid Bath formed in 1991 and released two albums in their lifespan: 1994’s ‘When the Kite String Pops’ and ‘Paegan Terrorism Tactics’ in 1996. They broke up in 1997 when bassist Audie Pitre and his parents were killed in a car crash by a drunk driver.

The reunion will include three of the band’s founding members, with lead singer Dax Riggs, guitarist Sammy ‘Pierre’ Duet and guitarist Mike Sanchez on board. They’ll be joined by drummer Zack Simmons and bassist Alex Bergeron. Founding keyboardist Tommy Viator died earlier this year.

Sharing the news on Instagram, Riggs wrote “The Bath will return April 12, 2025 at Sick New World Festival. Our heads are literally EXPLODING! We’ll be playing select songs from our two full length LPs. See you there fiends, let the blackness roll on.”

Duet also took to Instagram to confirm the reunion, saying: “Yes, this is real.”

The festival, which focuses on rock, nu-metal and industrial, will also see performances from Linkin Park, Metallica, The Flaming Lips, Evanescence, Queens Of The Stone Age, Gojira, AFI, the Sisters Of Mercy, Meshuggah, Cradle Of Filth, X, Refused, Cannibal Corpse and Lacuna Coil.

Tickets will go on sale on Friday (October 18), starting at US$19.99. You can sign up for the presale on the festival’s website, and buy tickets here.

Last year, the likes of System Of A Down, Slowdive and Slipknot played the festival, the latter celebrating the 25th anniversary of their self-titled debut album and performing a career-spanning setlist.

System Of A Down played the inaugural festival in 2023, too, while Korn, Deftones and Incubus were also among the biggest names to perform.
