The search for a killer is underway in a gripping Weatherfield whodunnit. In Monday (October 14) night's shocking episode of Coronation Street, ITV viewers witnessed the body of Joel Deering (Calum Lill) emerge from a river, only for a post-mortem to reveal that he was already dead before entering the water, ruling out suicide.

DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) declared Joel's death as a murder investigation, causing visible fear among several Weatherfield residents. In the coming weeks, a sequence of thrilling flashbacks will assist viewers in piecing together the mystery, as the soap tracks the police's efforts to solve one of the street's most significant whodunnits.

Detective Kit, now officially leading the case, begins his probe by notifying Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) and Dee-Dee Sterling (Channique Sterling-Brown), the two women whose lives Joel threatened to ruin with his abuse and deceit, about his murder.

However, as the enigma intensifies, these stylised flashbacks will expose just how many suspects there are, revisiting the night of September 27th when Joel disappeared, a man who was far from popular.

Coronation Street is set to keep viewers on the edge of their seats as a number of beloved characters fall under suspicion in an upcoming storyline. The first suspects to be revealed this week are Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan), uncle of Joel's jilted fiancee Dee-Dee, and Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan), the notorious bad boy from the wrong side of town who has been making efforts to turn his life around, reports the Liverpool Echo.

In Wednesday's episode (October 17), fans will be treated to the first dramatic flashback, taking them back to the night of Joel's disappearance.

As the plot thickens and evidence piles up, viewers will see Kit being pulled in different directions, while DS Swain (Vicky Myers), who was previously sidelined from the case, conducts her own investigations.

With many more twists and turns expected, the question remains: who is truly responsible for Joel's death, and how long will it take for Kit and Lisa to bring the killer to justice?

Coronation Street is on ITV at 8pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday and available to stream from 7am on ITVX
