Good Morning Britain viewers witnessed an abrupt interruption on Tuesday, October 15, as Ranvir Singh cut through the regular programming with an urgent update.

While Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley were at the helm of today's broadcast, they swiftly handed over to Ranvir for the latest developments. In a dramatic interlude, Ranvir announced: "Next we have some breaking news for you in the last few minutes. Official figures have been released which show that the country's job market is weakening."

She continued, revealing the concerning economic indicators: "This is because the rate at which workers salary's are rising has slowed down to a growth rate of 4.9%. That's not the only unwelcome news. The amount of people working on UK payrolls has fallen, down 35,000, between July and August.", reports the Mirror.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has released its latest data about the UK's employment market, confirming unemployment was at 4%, which is down 0.1% on the previous numbers. This is also below pre-pandemic levels.

Elsewhere on the show, Susanna and Richard delved into the headlines, discussing Health Secretary Wes Streeting's novel proposal to give weight loss injections to the unemployed obese in an effort to boost employment.

The Labour MP penned: "Our widening waistbands are also placing significant burden on our health service, costing the NHS £11bn a year even more than smoking. And it's holding back our economy. Illness caused by obesity causes people to take an extra four sick days a year on average, while many others are forced out of work altogether."
