BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood admits to co-star Sally Nugent 'I'm failing miserably'
Carol Kirkwood confessed to host Sally Nugent that she was "failing miserably" after being put on the spot, on the show.
Tuesday (October 15) hosts Sally and Ben Thompson, had been discussing a conker competition that appeared to turn sour after a formal complaint had been lodged about a contestant and judge who'd gone on to win.
It was claimed that the winner had cheated and used a steel conker to secure their victory, although since then, he admitted that he did have a steel conker in his possession but established that it was not used and instead was just a gimmick that he kept in his pocket.
Sally and Ben were laughing over the controversy as the conker pictures played on screen, when they were prompted by producers to swiftly move to the weather. Addressing Carol, who was also in the studio at the time, Sally wanted to know her views on the autumnal sport.
She turned to the meteorologist and asked: "I wonder if Carol has any top tips for those of us who celebrate conker season?" Dumbfounded by her probe, Carol burst into fits of giggles and hit back saying: "Thanks for that Sal," looking very unimpressed.

"No, is my guess on that," chirped back Sally awkwardly. Trying to make light of the situation, without giving away her thoughts on the subject, Carol blurted: "Maybe I can conquer the weather?"
But her joke appeared not to land well and so the weather star admitted: "I'm failing miserably." Sally and Ben disagreed, telling Carol that she was instead "too good" before handing over for the weather.
When it came to her update for the next few days it seemed as though the UK was in for a shocking temperature spike, with Carol urging that on Wednesday (October 16), parts of Britain could expect to see "highs of 20 degrees in some parts."
Despite the good news on the horizon, unenthusiastic host Ben responded, telling Carol: "But what's the point when it's just raining so much." Failing to see his point of view, Sally argued: "No, no, let's just hold on to the warmer."

Fans complained that Charlie had addressed Carol disgracefully after the BBC weather app had incorrectly showed winds of 13,508mph were set to hit London. After talking about the issue, which IT were trying to fix, Charlie set about questioning his co-star Carol on the error.
He quizzed: "Are you going to fix this Carol? This has been going on for many hours now. Is anything actually happening? Are you going to fix it."
"Of course Charlie! Of course, we are. It is a big problem, it's not just one that can be sorted like that," she responded as she snapped her fingers. Elaborating further, she said: "So our technicians are working on it as fast as they can and it will be sorted as quickly as it possibly can, again our apologies on this."

Charlie came under fire with BBC fans (Image: BBC)Fans over on X were not happy with Charlie's questioning as they took to the platform to complain. One person said: "Was there really a need for Charlie Stayt to speak to Carol Kirkwood the way he did about the weather app glitch on the last weather bulletin? I thought he was mucking about at first. Going all Paxman on a work colleague seemed a bit much."
Another echoed: "Why are Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt always having a go at Carol Kirkwood. They might think it's banter, to the viewer it comes across as workplace bullying."
As a third shared: "Absolutely disgraceful by Charlie on BBC Breakfast. There’s a glitch on the app showing incorrect wind speeds. He shouted at Carol and demanded to know when it would be fixed. Embarrassing and petulant. He owes her an apology."
BBC Breakfast airs everyday on BBC One from 6am and can be streamed via iPlayer.
