Mastermind viewers vent frustrations as they all call for urgent shake-up

Mastermind fans were frustrated watching this evening's episode, which saw Clive Myrie quiz contestants on everything from Bollywood movies to English wine in the 21st century.

They called for a "minimum score" for contestants to achieve before making it through to the next round, after some seemed to achieve victory far too easily. Blasting the low scorers of the night, one lamented: "No-one wants to win this."

Another quizzed: "Is it my imagination or are #Mastermind winning scores on a downward slope? The winner tonight achieved the measly total of 17 & got only seven in the general knowledge round."

Then a third chimed in, asking: "Is it time for a minimum score to get through? So many 'second places' would have won tonight's show #mastermind."

"Should have a league table of scores - top 6 get in the final. That was poor #mastermind," another agreed. "Need to score more than 7 on general knowledge to be a #mastermind!" exclaimed another.

"Lowest final scores I've seen on Mastermind for a long time," said one fan, while another insisted that anyone winning with a lower score of 21 should be "embarrassed".

The episode seemed to attract a lot of emotion, although someone reasoned that initially low scoring players can often "excel" by the time they get to the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, viewers commented on the same thing after Clive seemingly appeared to pronounce Bollywood actress, Madhuri Dixit incorrectly.

"Sounds like Clive's trying to say something else," one mused.

"This contender on #Mastermind is fulfilling a bet with a mate to get Clive Myrie to say "D**ks**t" repeatedly on the BBC," someone joked.

The show, which sees contestants first get quizzed for two and a half minutes on a specialist subject and then for the same length of time on general knowledge for a chance to progress to the next round, returned for a new series this summer.

The next episode airs on Monday at 7:30pm on BBC Two.
