Strictly fans have spotted Wynne Evans one-word demand to dancer partner Katya Jones before being embroiled in controversy.

The pair took to the dance floor over the weekend to perform a tango, but a preview clip shared on the Strictly Come Dancing Instagram page showed Wynne mouthing the word “money” as he mimicked the lyrics to the popular Abba song while showcasing his dance moves.

It comes after fans of the show were left feeling "creeped out" when the 52-year-old opera singer moved his hand around Katya's waist during Saturday night’s live performance.

However, Wynne later issued an apology, admitting he was left “heartbroken” by the reaction to the moment. Meanwhile, Katya revealed the incident had been a “very silly” inside joke.

He told BBC Radio Wales: “I’m absolutely heartbroken by the things that have been written about me in the last day. It’s not nice to live in that time, but basically Katya and I are really, really close and we’re really good friends, and on Saturday night we made a stupid joke.

“It was a stupid joke that went wrong, okay, we thought it was funny. It wasn’t funny. It has been totally misinterpreted. Everything’s on Katya’s socials. She’s talked about it. She’s explained that it was a joke. She wasn’t offended in the least. She doesn’t feel uncomfortable.

“We’ve got a brilliant friendship, an absolutely tight friendship, and I’m sorry if anybody was offended by it, but it was a joke and yeah, that’s all there is, there is no real story, really.

“And I feel weird apologising because I feel like I’ve not really done anything.”

Meanwhile, Katya, 35, said: “Happy Sunday everyone. Now, I need to make something crystal clear. The hand incident that happened on Saturday night was an inside – a very silly, very silly – inside joke between Wynne and I.

“So even the idea that it made me feel uncomfortable or offended me in any way is complete nonsense.

“It’s quite absurd actually. Now, can we just focus on how brilliantly he’s doing and what an amazing dancer he’s becoming?"

It comes amid heightened scrutiny of the popular BBC One dancing show following celebrities being outspoken about their treatment on the long-running series, which is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary year.

The duo had their highest score so far on Saturday, with the judges giving them 34 points for their tango.
