Tipping Point fans outraged by 'unfair' rule as viewers demand show change

Ben Shephard returned as host (Image: ITV) Tipping Point: Ben repeats question after wrong answer

ITV fans are slamming popular gameshow Tipping Point as “unfair” after a player made a very unusual drop on the show.

Salma, a drama student Manchester, joined teacher Neil from Northern Island and civil servant Joanne from Hertfordshire in hopes of bagging a nice cash prize.

But as player Neil made it to the final he was seen executing a very unusual drop. The mystery prize counter and the x2 counter, which doubles the amount of the drop, both dropped at the same time.

Fans were shocked to see that Neil was not awarded two mystery prizes.

“Watching tipping point and he got the x2 counter and the mystery counter, so why do you only get one mystery prize not 2?” asked one fan.

Another agreed: “Wonder why they've never given x2 mystery prizes when it drops with the double?” to which another fan replied: “That's a really good point tbf they should, not really fair is it.”(sic)

And more chimed in, offering up a solution: “Anybody else think it would be good if when the contestant drops there counter, it could come out as a x2 or extra mystery counter just to add more of them to the machine randomly?”

Elsewhere, host Ben Shephard had a defiant response when a guest on This Morning questioned the rules of hit ITV game show he helms.

Celebrity impersonators Lee Lard and Stewart Nicol joined Ben and Cat on the show and the pair had some questions for the long-standing host.

Lee cheekily put forward to Ben: "And now we're friends, can you fast track me onto Tipping Point?" Bursting into laughter, Ben readily agreed, only to be cut short by an abrupt query from Stewart, who asked him bluntly:

"Why is it that runners-up never get to keep what they've earned?" he asked Ben, who was clearly taken back by the question.

Defending the format of the popular quiz show, Ben said: "Because, where's the jeopardy if you give the money to the runner-up as well?!"

As everyone began speaking, Ben then defiantly added: "By the way, it's not my money!"

In was in reference to players being forced to decide between the money they have won and risking it all for the jackpot.
