Liam Payne reportedly postpones second solo album

Liam Payne has reportedly postponed the release of his second solo album.

The former One Direction member returned in March with the single ‘Teardrops’, marking his first new material since 2021 song ‘Sunshine’. Payne’s debut full-length record, ‘LP1’, arrived in 2019.

According to reports, the singer’s next album has now been put “on pause” indefinitely. It comes after ‘Teardrops’ failed to enter the UK top 30 (peaking at Number 43) and he parted ways with his manager earlier this year.

A source told The Sun newspaper’s ‘Bizarre’ column (via Music News): “Things are tough for Liam at the moment. His former manager Roger stepped back earlier this year.

“He was a steady hand for Liam and he appears to be struggling without his guidance. Things have started to seem slightly erratic, with plans being made before they are cancelled last minute.”

They continued: “Liam had been doing really well on his second album but now it’s completely on pause. Liam is telling people now he has no idea if it’ll ever be released.”

Additionally, it is reported that a planned documentary about Payne’s career has been axed.

Earlier in 2024, the singer gave an update about the process of working on his second album. “This time, the scariest part is that every one of these songs is a story from my life,” he said (via Q Radio).

“And they’re really close to me. I hope people feel that through every song, that I actually felt whatever it is you’re feeling right now listening to this.”

He added: “We’ve rewritten a lot of these songs based off the idea of where we’re going with this and also how I’m feeling as a person.

“I used to show up to sing a song, then go. Absolutely not this time. We’re going to have fun with this.”

Upon releasing ‘Teardrops’, Payne explained that the single was “about the vulnerability of heartbreak and the challenge of overcoming those moments”.

“This song marks the start of a new beginning,” he continued, before promising fans that there was “lots more to come in 2024”.

At the time, the star had been in the studio and working closely with long-time collaborator Jamie Scott. He described the time creating new material as a “year-long process of self-reflection”.

Last year, Payne opened up about a stint in rehab and the controversial and viral comments he made about his former One Direction bandmates.
