BBC Breakfast's Charlie Stayt slammed by fans over 'disgraceful' remark to co-star

BBC Breakfast: Carol details tech issues with BBC Weather app

BBC Breakfast's Charlie Stayt has landed in hot water with some viewers for his reaction during a recent programme.

On Thursday's show, Charlie, alongside his colleague Naga Munchetty, discussed a technical mishap with weather expert Carol Kirkwood. After Carol concluded her UK weather update, Naga spotlighted the BBC app's erroneous hurricane wind warnings.

Seeking an explanation about the erratic wind speed readings, Carol comforted viewers, commenting: "Yes, I'm afraid we do have a technical glitch this morning and my apologies for this.

"Our technicians are working on it as fast as they can to sort it. But what you're looking at there, hurricane force winds are not happening, I stress that."

While sharing a laugh about the wildly inaccurate wind forecasts displayed on the weather app, Carol assured them this was not the case, reports the Daily Record.

Yet, Charlie seemed exasperated since this glitch had persisted since the show's start.

In a rather biting remark, he asked: "Are you going to fix this Cariol? This has been going on for many hours now. Is anything actually happening? Are you going to fix it?"

Carol responded calmly: "Of course Charlie! Of course, we are. It is a big problem, it's not just one that can be sorted like that (snaps fingers).

"So our technicians are working on it as fast as they can and it will be sorted as quickly as it possibly can, again our apologies on this."

Charlie Stayt's on-air approach to colleague Carol Kirkwood left viewers unimpressed, sparking a Twitter backlash.

One viewer was clearly irked, tweeting: "Was there really a need for Charlie Stayt to speak to Carol Kirkwood the way he did about the weather app glitch on the last weather bulletin? I thought he was mucking about at first. Going all Paxman on a work colleague seemed a bit much."

Another Twitter user expressed their anger, writing: "Absolutely disgraceful by Charlie on @bbcbreakfast. There's a glitch on the @bbcweather app showing incorrect wind speeds. He shouted at Carol and demanded to know when it would be fixed. Embarrassing and petulant. He owes her an apology."

Amongst the comments, on perosn wrote: "@BBCBreakfast Why are Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt always having a go at Carol Kirkwood."

Complimenting Carol, another viewer said: "I have very much enjoyed seeing our Carol a lot today despite the reason not being a nice one. She definitely deserves a nice mug of tea and a biscuit once the program is over."

BBC Breakfast continues weekdays on BBC One from 6am.
