Good Morning Britain presenter Martin Lewis was furious this morning, as Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Lisa Nandy came on air to discuss winter fuel payment cuts.

The money-saving expert grilled Lisa, who he said had previously championed the poorest, and asked why she was "defending" the Labour Party's divisive move.

Martin, in a passionate plea, claimed many pensioners would not know what was happening and demanded that Nandy write them "bl***y letters", before apologising for the colourful language.

Lisa, however, appeared unfazed by his anger, as she refused to accept responsibility for the policy's future outcomes.

Martin fumed: "You have gone from 20,000 people a month claiming pension credit to 40,000 people a month claiming pension credit, but there are 780,000 people. You would need an exponential rise in the number of people claiming pension credit for those pensioners this year. We have to accept; you have to accept. There will be hundreds of thousands of the poorest pensioners earning under 11,000 a year, which you will not reach this year. You are taking money out of their hands.

"Do you accept the truth? The reality is... I am saying it, Age UK is saying it. So, let's be honest: you are willing to accept the collateral damage of pensioners not getting the winter fuel payment."

In response, Lisa bluntly replied: "No, I am not willing to accept that. It is one of the reasons we have extended the cut-off point to apply until April next year. So even if people don't realise it right now despite this conversation happening on national media, they can still apply and have it backdated."

The heated exchange between the pair divided viewers on social media, who flocked to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share their views.

One commented: "Martin Lewis' behaviour was shameful this morning. I am extremely disappointed by this situation with pensioners at the moment. However, the way he spoke to Lisa Nandy, swearing and raising his voice, was unacceptable. His arrogance & rudeness is unacceptable, no matter the topic!" (sic)

A second commented: "Yes, Martin quite rightly gave Lisa Nandy a grilling, however, I NEVER saw him speak to any member of the disgraceful Tory government in this way, more's the pity."

While a third stated: "I'm not a regular viewer but I caught the interview. One of the best grillings I've seen since Paxman. Skewered @lisanandyand wouldn't let her obfuscate. Half a million pensioners are collateral damage because of @UKLabour."

A fourth shared: "Lisa Nandy using doublespeak, claiming Labour is "protecting poor OAPs" (by filling a £22bn black hole with their money) Encourages OAPs to put on their heating because they can still claim next April so how many won't because they're scared they won't qualify/don't trust Labour?"

And a fifth added: "Well what can I say. Labour used to be for the working class. Why has she come on GMB and announce money for the film industry. Thanks for grilling her."

It comes as Lisa had previously had a heated row with Sky News presenter Kay Burley over freebies.

The argument occurred while the culture MP was being questioned about reports that Sir Keir Starmer and Yvette Cooper had urged the Met Police to provide a blue-light escort for the singer to her Wembley shows during the summer.

Ms Nandy told Sky News: “When you have major events, whether in London or in other parts of the UK, the Home Secretary will be involved in a conversation where there is a security risk.

“I also know that she doesn’t have the power, nor would she use the power, to insist that any individual got the top level of private security arrangements. That is an operational matter for the police, not for the Government.

“The police made the decision. Ultimately, it is their decision, and nobody else can make it.”
