Strictly: Chris McCausland performs Wayne's World routine

Strictly Come Dancing star Chris McCausland is totally unrecognisable in his forgotten Cbeebies role.

The stand-up comedian, who regularly appears on panel shows like Would I Lie To You and sitcoms including Not Going Out, got his big break in the kids’ TV show Me Too!, in which he starred as market trader Rudi from 2006 until 2007.

Set in the town of Riverseafingal, Chris was known for his bright yellow and gold clothes, singing plenty of cheeky songs and educating children on everything from littering to healthy eating.

Reddit fans who are only just discovering his breakout role couldn’t believe what they were seeing, and took to the forum to share their thoughts.

One posted: “Absolute legend.” While someone else joked: “It would be hilarious if he redid the routine now.”

Someone else mused: “I swear I’ve seen this exact same video, but with Miles Jupp…” – but they were swiftly corrected: “Well yes, this show follows a very similar template to Balamory.

"Set in a fictional Scottish town, each episode is centred around one of the characters and at some point during the episode they have a problem to solve.”

Chris was the lead in four episodes of the series – but going from acting in children’s telly to comedy isn’t his only career change. Born in Liverpool, Chris moved to London to study software engineering at Kingston University back in 1996.

He first worked as a web developer before his deteriorating eyesight led him to a job in sales, until he started performing stand-up in 2003. The star has also considered a job as a spy, though.

The comedian applied for a job at MI5 and made it to the very last 1% of applicants, but didn’t get the job in the end. One outraged friend fumed he’d been discriminated against due to being blind, but Chris wasn’t happy with that notion.

He said on Radio 4’s Saturday Live: “I don’t want to live in a country that would give me that job! Sometimes I think discrimination is perfectly acceptable thing…”
