BBC Breakfast viewers call out Naga Munchetty's 'unprofessional' habit on show

BBC Breakfast: Naga sips her mug of drink during interview

BBC Breakfast viewers were quick to call out host Naga Munchetty for something she frequently does on the programme, branding it 'unprofessional'.

Naga was on hosting duty alongside Charlie Stayt on Saturday morning's episode (October 5). The pair were interviewing colorectal surgeon and president of Colostomy UK, Ian Daniels, alongside Debbie Meredith, a Stoma bag awareness campaigner who has two of them herself.

Their interview coincided with Colostomy UK's annual Stoma Aware Day, which falls on October 5, with the guests hoping to raise awareness of what it's like to live with a Stoma bag.

"Essentially a stoma means a mouth," explained Ian during the interview. "So it's just the way for contents of your bowel to get outside."

As Naga further pressed Ian about how the Stoma bag works, eagle-eyed viewers saw Naga take a sip from her mug, which she then kept hold of for the rest of the segment.

The move irked some viewers. One took to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, to vent their frustration, writing: "Naga so unprofessional drinking from a mug while interviewing a guest on the show."

Not all viewers noticed the fleeting moment however, and many were quick to praise the segment overall for its awareness-raising.

The live interview followed on from a pre-recorded section exploring the lives of people living with Stoma bags, and a campaign for lingerie that was created for people who had undergone an ostomy procedure.

"Thanks @BBCBreakfast and @ColostomyUK for making noise and such a great explanation piece. Dear @marksandspencer  pls can you get more stoma knickers in stock!" shared one viewer.

Another said: "Great piece on BBC Breakfast news today about Stomas… Something my dad has had for 10 years. Great to see some awareness," while one viewer gushed: "A brilliant piece on BBC. Well done!".
