Bob MacIntyre fumes at Rory McIlroy and gives PGA Tour rival staredown on the same hole
Bob MacIntyre gave Rory McIlroy an almighty stare after being left frustrated by his PGA Tour rival at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Playing in the group ahead of McIlroy, MacIntyre was preparing to putt for a birdie on the par-four 14th hole.
As the home favourite began to line up his putt, McIlroy smashed a monster drive along the fairway before his ball came to a stop on the green. The hole, which is 390 yards in length, was playing downhill and downwind which helped McIlroy to gain some extra distance.
MacIntyre was clearly frustrated at being disturbed by McIlroy's tee shot and turned around before flashing a stern glare in his direction. He continued to stand still while McIlroy's playing partner Billy Horschel also fired away, missing the green to the left.
Sky Sports commentator Rich Beem said: "Bob seems a little annoyed by that." His fellow analyst Nick Dougherty added: "Yeah, definitely bristling a little there is Bob."
MacIntyre eventually made his birdie putt despite being visibly riled up by McIlroy's tee shot. He ended up carding a level-par round of 72 to remain on five-under-par for the tournament.
Later on, McIlroy carded a second straight round of 69 to bump himself up to six-under par. Both players will need to outdo themselves on the Old Course at St Andrews this weekend, with leaders Nico Colsaerts and Cameron John streets ahead on 14-under-par.
MacIntyre has enjoyed an impressive year, claiming two victories on the PGA Tour by winning the Canadian Open and Scottish Open. He recently teamed up with Andy Murray for the pro-am event at the BMW PGA Championship, finishing 13 shots behind the leaders.

The 28-year-old was impressed with Murray's game and offered an encouraging verdict on his bid to become a scratch golfer following his retirement from tennis.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, McIntyre shared a picture of Murray enjoying an ice cream alongside the caption: "Got Andy Murray on my diet! Unreal to spend time with Andy today, one of my sporting heroes. Won’t be long till he’s off scratch."
McIlroy, meanwhile, has endured a tough year at times but remains well clear in the season-long DP World Tour rankings. If he wins the Race to Dubai in November, he will draw level with Seve Ballesteros' record of six Harry Vardon trophies.
